Age 1
Our goal at Mitten Kids Dentistry and Orthodontics is to see every child for their first dental visit by age 1, which is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. This allows us to develop a trusting relationship with your child and create positive dental experiences from an early age, which will ultimately set them up for a lifetime of healthy smiles. But do not worry if your child is older, as it's never too late to start their oral health journey!
Parental Involvement
We need your help. Your child needs your help. Dentistry doesn’t just happen at Mitten Kids, it happens at home. We'll work together to develop the best plan to take care of your child’s teeth. Parents are welcome to attend appointments, but soon your child will be ready to do it on their own. Independence in a child is one of the things we value most here. While you sit back and wait comfortably in front (coffee and some "me" time anybody?), we’ll be teaching your kids how to properly care for their teeth. Afterwards, we’ll share those lessons with you so we’re all on the same page when it comes to keeping your child healthy and happy.
Communication is Key
We believe that communication between doctors, staff, parents, and children is essential. We are always here to answer your questions! Whether it’s related to your child’s growth and development, the need for braces, cavities, or why they occur, we will always do our best to deliver the answers in an easy, fun, simple, and positive manner.
Any Child. Any Need.
We pride ourselves in being able to serve any child, no matter their needs. Medically compromised? Special needs? Scared of the dentist or new places? Rest assured, there's little we haven't encountered. We’ll work with you and your child to deliver the best care.
Repeat
We’ll get together at least every 6 months to make sure your child is staying healthy. Oh, and don’t be at all surprised if your child starts looking forward to dental check ups…crazier things have happened!
Our Journey
1
The Beginning
Our journey began with a vision to redefine our name and embody a brand reflecting our core values of evidence-based, quality care. Dr. Raby began as the first pediatric dentist in Grand Rapids in the 1970s, followed by Dr. Davis and Dr. Payne. Dr. Brett Kingma (Dr. Brett) succeeded Dr. Payne in 2015, and in 2018, Dr. Grady Randall (Dr. Grady) joined him, fortifying our commitment to excellence.
2
The Adventure
Launched officially in 2019, Mitten Kids Dentistry embarked on an adventure, seeking to capture Michigan's spirit – fun and adventure with a kid-friendly vibe. In 2020, Dr. Brett and Dr. Grady worked tirelessly with a number of third parties to provide adequate access to office based anesthesia to the state of Michigan. To date, this has allowed children with the most significant dental need to be treated in a comfortable and timely manner via collaboration with board certified pediatric dentists and dental anesthesia experts. Safety is our number one priority.
3
The Present
Seeking to create a world class and well rounded team of pediatric dental providers, Dr. Alexandra Korte (Dr. Alex) and Dr. Kruti Shah (Dr. K) joined in 2021 and 2023, respectively. Always seeking to innovate and advance, Dr. Katherine Randall (Dr. Katie) joined the team to bring her orthodontic expertise. Today, Mitten Kids Dentistry & Orthodontics is more than a pediatric dental practice; it’s a collaborative endeavor between friends and colleagues (and in one case, spouses) - to provide an all inclusive, “one-stop shop” for parent's convenience, founded upon evidence-based care and the highest ethical standards. Oh - and we’re pretty good at having fun too!
